It wasn’t easy and at times it didn’t look likely, but after closing the game on a 17-3 run, Georgia State escaped Statesboro with a 58-49 win over their rivals Georgia Southern and completed the season sweep.

Georgia State saved their best performance of the season for their bitter rivals Georgia Southern, burying them in the second half and running away with a 79-63 win.

Georgia State completed their Carolina sweep this weekend with a 58-49 victory over the Sun Belt-leading Appalachian State Mountaineers. The Panthers led almost the entire way, taking a 12-point advantage into the intermission, even extending the lead up to 14 at one point in the second half.

Georgia State has been making stingy defense a calling card of theirs as they’ve battled back from an 0-4 start to Sun Belt play, and that trend continued in tonight’s smothering 61-50 victory over Coastal Carolina on the road.

It was a tale of two halves for Georgia State, but despite shooting 20% from the field in the second half, they made an 18-point halftime lead stick and prevailed over South Alabama 69-62 on Saturday afternoon.

Similar problems that have haunted Georgia State all season reared their ugly head tonight, as poor shooting and lapses in decision-making cost them in a 67-63 loss to Troy which snapped a two-game winning streak.

Two days after winning their first conference game of the season against Louisiana, Georgia State got their second conference win in as many tries after a complete 73-62 victory against ULM. The victory marked just the second time this season Georgia State has won back-to-back games, with the last coming against High Point and William & Mary on November 20 and 21.

After falling short in two close games at home last week, Georgia State rebounded and exorcized their recent late-game demons with a 68-64 win at Louisiana on Thursday night.
