Georgia State (5-4) will be rewarded for their second straight winning season with an appearance in the LendingTree Bowl in Mobile, AL on December 26th. The Panthers will face the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (5-6) of Conference USA in what will be a rematch of the 2017 Cure Bowl, a game Georgia State won 27-17 for their first-ever bowl victory. The news was first reported by Brett McMurphy of Stadium.

In a press release, Georgia State head coach Shawn Elliott said on the bowl placement,  “I’m so proud of our players for their commitment and hard work to persevere through this season and earn our fourth bowl berth,” He added, “We talk about doing things for the first time, and back-to-back bowl games is another first for our program.”

This marks the fourth bowl berth in program history and the first time the Panthers will go bowling in consecutive seasons. This is the third bowl trip in Coach Elliott’s four seasons in Atlanta. Georgia State will come into this matchup riding a two-game win streak after defeating South Alabama and rival Georgia Southern in their final two games to secure a winning regular season record for the second straight season – a program first.

If they take a snap in the bowl game, up to seven Panthers – TE Roger Carter, G Shamarious Gilmore, LB Victor Heyward, WR Jonathan Ifedi, LB Trajan Stephens-McQueen, DL Hardrick Willis and DL Dontae Wilson – can collectively set a new program record by playing in their third bowl game.

The action at Ladd-Peebles Stadium gets underway at 3:30pm and the game can be seen nationally on ESPN.
