At the end of one of the strangest and most difficult seasons anyone involved with the Georgia State program has been through, the reward was the same as it usually is – a trip to a different city to play in a bowl game. Another installment of Modern Day Hate has come and gone, and in the 2020 edition of State vs Southern, the Panthers came out on top 30-24. How did the Panthers end their losing streak against the Eagles? This is Upon Further Review.

In his time at Georgia State, head coach Shawn Elliott has made “Start fast, finish strong” a mantra for how he wants this team to build their winning culture. On Saturday, the usual script flipped and there was no fast start to be found. But Georgia State’s play in the game’s final 20 minutes exemplified everything about “Finish strong” and the result was, in the end, a comfortable 31-14 on the road against South Alabama. On a clear day at Kidd Brewer Stadium Georgia State had a chance to finally knock off perennial thorn in their side Appalachian State. It was a night for the offenses to revel in and a night for the defenses to forget, but what could be taken away from the game after the dust finally settled at Centennial Bank Stadium? This is Upon Further Review.
