Georgia State Football Headed to Arizona Bowl
After the most successful regular-season performance in program history, the Georgia State Panthers (7-5, 4-4 Sun Belt) will head to Tucson, Arizona to face the Wyoming Cowboys in the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
It will be the first appearance for Georgia State in the Arizona Bowl, which is in the last year of its current contracted tie-in with the Sun Belt Conference. The bowl pits a Sun Belt team with a foe from the Mountain West.
“We are thrilled to be playing in the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl against a quality opponent in Wyoming,” head coach Shawn Elliott said in a press release from the university. This matchup will be the Panthers’ first against the Cowboys, a team which also finished 7-5 overall and 4-4 in conference. Wyoming defeated SEC opponent Missouri to open their 2019 campaign – on the same day Georgia State took down Tennessee in Knoxville.
With this bowl selection Georgia State will play in its third bowl game in five years, the previous two appearances being a loss to San Jose State in the inaugural Cure Bowl in 2015 and a victory over Western Kentucky in Shawn Elliott’s first year at the helm of the Panthers in the 2017 Cure Bowl.
Kickoff from Arizona Stadium is set for 2:30pm Mountain time (4:30pm EST) on New Years Eve. The game will air on the CBS Sports Network and the Georgia State Football Radio Network.
Tickets for the game will be available for sale through the Georgia State ticket office Sunday evening at http://georgiastatesports.com/tix
