Georgia State’s 2021 football schedule is now complete with the Sun Belt’s release of their conference schedule on Monday afternoon. The conference games announced today join the previously-known four out-of-conference games the Panthers already had scheduled over the first four weeks of the season.

These games join the previously-announced out-of-conference slate. After rotating off Georgia State’s schedule for 2020, Texas State is back. South Alabama takes the Bobcats’ spot as the one West Division team the Panthers will not play this season. The schedule is as follows:

9/4         Army

9/11       at North Carolina

9/18        Charlotte

9/25        at Auburn

10/2      Appalachian State* (Sun Belt opener)

10/9        at ULM*

10/23    Texas State*

10/30      at Georgia Southern*

11/4  (Thursday)       at Louisiana* (ESPN network)

11/13      at Coastal Carolina*

11/20     Arkansas State*

11/27     Troy* (Senior Day)

* denotes Sun Belt Conference game. Home games in bold.

Georgia State starts the season on September 4 by hosting Army at Center Parc Stadium, in a rematch of the Panthers’ 28-21 win over the Black Knights in 2019.

They then travel to Chapel Hill on September 12 to face Mack Brown’s North Carolina, Georgia State’s first game against an ACC foe since their 41-7 loss to NC State in 2018.

The Tar Heel State connection continues the next week as Georgia State hosts Charlotte on September 18. The teams were scheduled to face off in Charlotte in 2020, but the game was cancelled due to coronavirus concerns. This is the first time these two teams will face off in Atlanta since the 2015 season opener, a 23-20 win for the 49ers that marked their first victory as an FBS program.

The Panthers then wrap up their non-conference games on September 25 with a trip to the Plains to face Auburn, their first game against an SEC opponent since going to Rocky Top and beating Tennessee 38-30 to start the 2019 season.

The Panthers will start conference play at home against Appalachian State.

The annual rivalry game with Georgia Southern will not take place in the last game of the season for the first time since the 2017 season. It will happen in Statesboro on October 30.

Georgia State heads to Lafayette for some THERSday Night Football on November 4, facing the three-time defending West Division champions Louisiana under the lights on national TV.

After that three-game road stretch in late October and early November, the Panthers will end the season with two home games against Arkansas State and Troy, with the latter being Senior Day.

Georgia State is looking to make it three winning seasons in a row for the first time in school history and they are set to return nearly all 22 starters from the 2020 team. Spring practice is due to get under way next week, on March 9, and will culminate in the 2021 Spring Game on April 16. Attendance at Center Parc Stadium will be free to fans.

Game times for the 2021 season are to be determined.
