Panthers Close Out Decade With 83-53 Win Over Middle Georgia State
Georgia State (9-4, 2-0 in Sun Belt) closed out 2019 with a 83-53 win over the Middle Georgia State Knights (6-5, 2-0 in SSAC) at home Monday night. After a slow start, the Panthers used a 23-4 run in the middle of the first half to distance themselves from Middle Georgia State and never looked back. This win was Georgia State’s eighth in their last nine games.
Justin Roberts led the way for the Panthers with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists on 8/14 shooting (3/8 from three). Roberts’ 9 rebounds is a new career high. The Panthers continued to make the three point line a point of emphasis on both sides of the ball, finishing the game shooting 12/35 from distance while holding the Knights without a made 3-point field goal (0/17). Three other Georgia State starters finished in double figures: Damon Wilson (13) Corey Allen (12) and Kane Williams (10). Williams and Allen also tacked on 5 and 4 assists, respectively.
Georgia State notches their 8th-straight win against teams from the state of Georgia, including their two wins over Mercer and Brewton-Parker this season. This win puts Georgia State at 197 wins in the 2010’s, the team’s most in a decade in program history. Coming into this game, Georgia State ranked 2nd in the Sun Belt Conference in NET rating (120), only trailing their next opponent, Appalachian State. The Panthers are set take on the Mountaineers on the road Thursday, January 2nd at 7:00pm EST.
