Sun Belt Conference Releases 2020 Football Schedules

The Sun Belt Conference publicly released their 2020 slate of football games Friday morning. Georgia State will participate in a pair of nationally-televised conference games at Arkansas State on October 15th, and in the friendly confines of Georgia State Stadium against Coastal Carolina two weeks later on October 29th.

These games join the previously-announced out-of-conference slate and the typical rotation of conference opponents to form the full 2020 schedule. Texas State leaves the Panthers’ rotation this season and the Ragin’ Cajuns from Lafayette will take their place.

After opening their 2019 campaign with the program’s first-ever away season opener, Georgia State once again will open the season at home versus FCS Murray State. The Racers and Panthers last met in 2011, when Murray State won in the Georgia Dome 48-24.

The Panthers’ visit to Tuscaloosa on 9/12 will be their third game against the Crimson Tide, having previously faced Alabama in Georgia State’s 2010 inaugural season and again in 2013.

Louisiana returns as a conference opponent in Georgia State’s first Sun Belt contest of the season on September 19th. The Panthers will go nearly a month before playing their second league game at Arkansas State on October 15th.

Georgia State will once again face the Charlotte 49ers in yet another installment of the oft-scheduled home-and-home series between the two schools. The East Carolina Pirates sail into Georgia State Stadium on October 3rd in the first meeting between the Panthers and this American Athletic Conference opponent.

Both of Georgia State’s nationally-televised contests (at the time of this writing) are slated for THERSday Nights in October. All other home and conference games will be broadcast on ESPN+ barring possible future TV pickups.

Spring practice is just beyond the horizon as the Panthers look to gear up under head coach Shawn Elliott for the fourth season. The Georgia State spring game is set for Friday evening, April 3rd.
