Georgia State Tops Point University in Exhibition 101-66

Georgia State unofficially opened the Rob Lanier era emphatically with a 101-66 win over Point University in tonight’s preseason exhibition. Redshirt junior Corey Allen led all scorers with 20 points in his first game action since transferring in before last season. Allen also finished tied for a team-high five assists with redshirt sophomore Justin Roberts. In total, five Panthers finished in double figures.

Swarming defense was the biggest theme of the win, Georgia State coming away with 18 steals and forcing 27 Skyhawks turnovers. Damon Wilson made his presence known all over the defensive end, coming away with 10 rebounds and five steals to complement 18 points. All but four Panthers finished with at least one steal. After a slow start for the Georgia State defense, they ramped up the energy and held Point to just 56 attempted shots on the game.

Despite the flashy box score numbers, Georgia State head coach Rob Lanier was critical of the Panthers’ defensive effort. “We didn’t necessarily do what we practice as a team,” Lanier said. “We didn’t play with that toughness and that urgency that I’ve become accustomed to seeing the last few weeks.”

Georgia State opens up regular season play on Wednesday, November 6th at home against Brewton-Parker College. Tipoff is set for 7:00pm,
