Panthers Down Mercer 73-61, Win 5 Straight

The Georgia State Panthers (6-3) cruised to a 73 – 61 victory Saturday in Macon over the Mercer Bears (4-6), picking up their second road win of the season and extending their current win streak to 5 games. The Panthers opened up the game on a 20 to 5 run in the first half, and never looked back. Georgia State’s defense stymied Mercer’s offense and allowed only 18 points in the first half, preventing the Bears from making a field goal until 11:31 remained before the break. The Bears offense bounced back in the second half by outscoring the Panthers 43-42, but it wasn’t enough to outgun the focused Panthers offense.

On offense, Georgia State was paced by Damon Wilson and Corey Allen who both had 16 points. Justin Roberts hit three 3-pointers, finishing with 13 points, 6 assists and three steals. Kane Williams added 12 points, as well as contributing 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

For Mercer, Djordje Dimitrijevic and Victor Bafutto led the Bears offense with 14 points apiece. Ethan Stair ended with 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as well.

The Panthers are back in action against UT Arlington on December 19th at the GSU Sports Arena in an early Sun Belt Conference opener. Tip off is 7pm.
