Panthers Surge Late, Beat South Alabama 76-73

Georgia State defeated South Alabama at home Thursday night by a score of 76-73. Corey Allen led the Panthers in scoring with 19 points. Three other Panthers finished in double figures (Nelson Phillips – 15, Kane Williams – 15, Justin Roberts – 11). South Alabama struggled to score down the stretch, having multiple extended stretches in the second half without a made field goal. This win marks Georgia State’s 3rd in a row and their 5th in the last 6 games.

Nelson Phillips notched another solid game coming off the bench for Georgia State. Phillips finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, one assist and a thunderous block midway through the second half that ignited the Sports Arena. Georgia State head coach Rob Lanier had high praise for the sophomore in his postgame press conference, citing his energy and maturity as major factors in the Panther’s win.

Georgia State’s next game is set for a rematch with Troy at home on Saturday. Georgia State previously fell to Troy on the road two weeks ago and is looking for a chance at redemption. Tip-off against the Trojans is set for 2:00 ET on Saturday.
